The Registries of Processing and Exporting Establishments of Animal and/or Plant Products in Honduras play a fundamental role in guaranteeing the safety and quality of the products, by constitutional mandate, Article 145 of the Constitution of the Republic, recognizes the right to the protection of people's health, and Honduras being a signatory of the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and the agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organization (WTO) where it is committed to harmonize its domestic legislation with international legislation, The National Agrifood Health and Safety Service (SENASA) is the governmental entity in charge of applying and controlling compliance with the provisions of the Phytozoosanitary Law and the regulations related to the hygienic-sanitary inspection in the processing of products, inspection, certification, verification of products of animal and vegetable origin as well as of the establishments that process them and assurance of compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
The role of the SENASA entity in Honduras is not only to watch over the health of the population, but also to play a key role in the supervision of agricultural products, its function is also to guarantee that these products comply with the established sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
Every company in Honduras, which is dedicated to process and export, must manage the registration with the regulatory body such as SENASA, being an essential requirement for all products that are exported and imported from Honduras, comply with local and international sanitary and phytosanitary regulations, this registration is crucial for exporters to access international markets and ensure the acceptance of their products. The Registration is the document issued by SENASA, by which the approval for the establishment to engage in one or more activities stipulated in the Regulation (CD SENASA Agreement 05-2018),
The regulatory body SENASA plays a vital role in exports and imports of products of animal and/or plant origin, it is responsible for granting permits ensuring that products meet the required health and quality standards, on the other hand, the issuance of this permit is essential to prevent the introduction of products that may pose risks to human, animal and plant health in the country. SENASA coordinates its actions with international entities and harmonizes regulations to facilitate trade. This approach not only simplifies procedures, but also strengthens Honduras' position on the global trade scene.
The CD SENASA Agreement 05-2018, regulates the process for the operation of all types of activity, whether it is dedicated to process, operate, commercialize, import and/or export products and by-products of animal and/or vegetable origin, the registration must be managed according to the activity, the establishment must request its registration prior to the start of its operations, once verified that the establishment meets the sanitary requirements will receive the number that certifies it as an authorized establishment, otherwise, they are susceptible to administrative sanctions for not having the proper authorization issued by SENASA,
In conclusion, the export and import permits granted by SENASA in Honduras are cornerstones for a safe and efficient international trade, its issuance not only meets regulatory requirements, but also contributes to the prestige and confidence in Honduran products in the global arena, staying at the forefront of technology by having a reliable platform such as the Electronic Management of Records (GER), Therefore, in response and compliance with the constitutional mandate, all companies engaged in processing, operating, marketing, importing and / or exporting products and by-products of animal and / or vegetable origin, must manage the respective registration of its establishment, before the National Service of Health and Food Safety (SENASA).
